ISSUES affecting looked-after children in Oxfordshire as well as those leaving care were highlighted at a conference hosted by Oxfordshire’s Children in Care Council.

The event at St Hilda’s College on Tuesday brought together local authorities, young people from six neighbouring areas and Oxfordshire County Council’s director for children’s services, Lucy Butler.

Steve Harrod, the council’s cabinet member for children and family services, was also present as young people recounted their experiences.

He said: “It was a real privilege to be part of the day and meet some truly inspirational young people who are making a real difference to the lives of others. “Our Children in Care Council in Oxfordshire is instrumental in channelling the voices of looked-after children and helping us understand the challenges that our young people face.”
