THE next phase of building homes at Kingsmere in Bicester has been given the go-ahead.

Countryside Properties, lead developer on the estate off the A41 and Vendee Drive, has been given approval to start the next phase of building a further 663 homes.

This number could rise to 709 homes if an 'Extra Care' facility is also created on site.

It comes seven years after work started on site and would bring the total number of homes at Kingsmere to 2,450.

Countryside Properties (Bicester) director Andrew Carrington said: "This is another defining moment for Kingsmere and we are delighted that planning permission for this next phase has now been granted.

"Our vision is to create a sought-after place to live, fully supported by new schools and community facilities on site with easy access to good transport connections.

"This new phase of up to 709 homes will continue to set the tone and ambience for the development by delivering a wide range of beautifully designed properties surrounded by extensive landscaping that will help link the development to its wider environment."

Phase two will cover 37 hectares and include a number of parks, play areas, sports pitches, landscaping and footpaths and cycle paths.

It will also include an additional two-form entry school as the second primary school to be built on site following St Edburg's School which opened last year.

Developers have also committed to providing land between Kingsmere and Chesterton to create a community woodland or country park .

Space has also been put forward for any future expansion of the current Park and Ride.

Cherwell District Council leader Barry Wood added: "Bicester was in great need of new homes and Kingsmere has been a welcome addition.

"I look forward to seeing this second phase, particularly the second primary school – as the first one has been such a resounding success.”
