PEOPLE are being urged to don their Lycra and get on the saddle to join in with this year’s Bicester Bike Day.

The event is now in it’s sixth year and attracts hundreds of people annually to get on their bikes and join in the celebrations in Bicester.

The event is staged by eco town lead developers A2Dominion to encourage more people to ride bikes in line with the area’s healthy town ambitions.

Cherwell District Council leader Barry Wood said: “We know the huge health benefits from active travel as well as the environmental advantages for the community.

“So, I would call every resident, no matter the age, to join the Bike Day.

“In Bicester, we are working to improve air quality and we need to encourage people to choose cleaner, greener alternatives, such as cycling.”

It will be staged on July 8 in Pingle Field and will start with the 10am Tour de Bicester family treasure hunt.

There will also be electric bike tasters, activities and a sports display from Team Extreme.

Mr Wood added: “Bicester has been awarded the Healthy New Town status because we aim to make residents’ health and wellbeing a focal point.

“We want to highlight that there is not a set age to get onto a bike; at any age, cycling can improve your health and mobility.”
