Love Island is back on our screens and it's brightening up our wintery nights with sizzling drama and scandal.

The ITV dating show returns for its ninth season (and second Winter series) on January 16 and we are thrilled to return to the world of grafting by the firepit, bombshells and dramatic recouplings.

For many, lounging about the villa and splashing about the pool seems like a dream come true but fans have one burning question.

What time do the islanders have to wake up on Love Island and do they get to sleep in?

What time do they wake up on Love Island?

The islanders are said to not have a set wake-up time but they are woken up by the producers when they turn on the lights.

Their wake-up time is said to vary depending on whether they have had a big night the night before, including any recouplings or dumpings.

Speaking to The Sun, ITV said the time "varies depending upon what has happened the night before".

However, speaking to Heat in 2017, 2016 Islander Kady McDermot revealed that: “The days were very long, and the producers never let us sleep in past 9.30am [because] that wasn’t entertaining."

The Islanders are also said to not know what time it is since they do not have clocks in the villa.

What does the day in the life of an islander on Love Island look like?

Former Love Island contestants have spilt some behind-the-scenes secrets over the years of what life is like in the villa.

Both Amy Hart and Millie Court have revealed elements of the show including their daily routines that you might not have known.

Wellness Experts at Eden’s Gate have compiled all the details to help us picture what it's really like in the villa.

To start the day, the girls usually head to the dressing room and get ready while the boys make a cup of coffee or tea for the girl they are looking to impress.

Over breakfast, the islanders are encouraged by the producers to pull their fellow contestants for chats as well as share any dramas that goings on from the villa.

There's then some time to relax around the pool, given the heat of both South Africa and Spain, before they head out on any challenges or dates.

The islanders then enjoy a fully catered lunch off-camera before heading out for a villa challenge, date or anything else the producers set up for the afternoon.

There are also 'chill days' in the villa according to ex-islander Millie Court where the stars can recuperate with fun activities, and games by the pool as well as indulge in some takeaways and sweet treats.

On their days off, the islanders reportedly sleep in same-sex beds and are not permitted to discuss any couplings or gossip.

Former contestant Amy Hart shared that the islanders started to get ready for the evening once it started to get dark as this is when the filming for the night tended to kick off.

Speaking on her TikTok, Hart revealed that the girls usually spent around two hours getting ready and that some evenings, such as recoupling, filming would often carry on until the early hours of the morning.

Before going to bed, the islanders go to the Beach Hut to discuss any events of the evening.

They would then have to make their way to their allocated bed which was shared in their couples (unless on a chill day) or use one of the outdoor beds if they wanted to change up the pairing.

Winter Love Island starts on Monday, January 16 at 9 pm on ITV 2 and ITV X.
