The deadline to register for the Oxford City Council and Thames Valley Police and Crime Commissioner elections on May 2 is rapidly approaching.

Oxford residents are being urgently reminded to register before the cut-off on April 16.

Voters who have changed address, name, or recently turned 18 are among those who must update their registration details.

Caroline Green, returning officer, Oxford City Council said: "These elections are a chance for people to have their say on their local representatives.

"If you are not registered, please make sure you register before midnight on 16 April."

Additionally, voters are reminded that a photo ID such as a passport or driving licence is necessary for voting at a polling station.

Applications for free ID can be made online or submitted as a paper form to the council, with the deadline for this election being 5pm on April 24.

Ms Green said: "No one needs to miss out on voting if they can’t make it down to their polling station.

"Postal and proxy voting provides an easy alternative for those who can’t or don’t want to vote in person."

With April 17 being the deadline for postal vote applications and April 24 for proxy vote applications, residents are encouraged not to delay.

Details of election candidates can be found on the Statement of Persons nominated webpage.
