ABOUT 2,000 science teachers took part in the biggest annual meeting of the Association for Science Education on January 7, 1976.
The four-day event was held at various Oxford University department buildings and saw numerous speakers give talks on the science of the day.
Manufacturers of scientific and teaching equipment put on exhibitions including the biology teaching model pictured and the teachers also gave demonstrations on their own ideas for teaching sciences.
Teachers from more than 50 countries attended the packed event which saw the Oxford University halls overflowing.
Richard Turner, the assistant secretary of the association, said: "The co-operation of the university had helped to make the meeting a great success."
