For the second year running, TV presenter Saira Khan was in Witney to open the annual fundraising Witney in the Pink Day.

On a glorious sunny day, this year’s event smashed records – with well over £5,000 collected for the Abingdon-based charity, Against Breast Cancer.

This was about £1,000 more than last year's event and more money is expected to come in from other shop-based events such as raffles, face-painting, pink drinks and cakes stalls.

“This is such a fantastic feel-good event, that raises money for a deserving cause. I am so happy to come along and take part,” said Ms Khan, who lives in Oxford and is currently appearing on ITV’s The Martin Lewis Money Show on Tuesday evenings.

She cut a pink ribbon, then toured the town centre to judge the best decorated shop window competition.

The winner was Church Green Cafe, with The Shake Shop second and Devious in third. Finders Keepers was highly commended.

Denton’s toy shop won the prize for the best-dressed shop staff.

This was the 11th Witney in the Pink Day, held each October as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The town was decorated with pink balloons and there was street entertainment including Cassing-ton’s Pink Noize street dancers.

“We all work incredibly hard to make this such a fantastic event,” said Jeanne Chattoe, chairman of the Witney fundraising team of Against Breast Cancer. She added: “I want to thank everyone who came into Witney on Saturday and supported us.”
