We have lived in Abingdon for well over 30 years as its sense of community has waxed and waned.

Despite problems that still need to be sorted out, like the traffic flow and the present shop ‘blight’ in Bath Street, for example, there are so many signs of hope in the town at the moment.

The plans for the Guildhall to attract back community groups, the planned provision of a theatre and cinema and the development of the Market Place are only a few of these signs of hope.

Looking around the Local Excellence market on Saturday – busy, thronged, and the sunshine helped of course – a visitor to the town smiled and said to me: “What a great place Abingdon must be to live in!”

Yes, it is, and we would like to thank bodies like the Choose Abingdon Partnership who are leading the revival of this sense of community.
