A bedroom blaze which blew out windows at a house in Morrell Avenue was started by unattended candles and incense sticks.
Firefighters were called at about 10.15am on Thursday.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue said there had been no battery fitted in the smoke alarm.
Watch Manager Shaun Betts said: “Anything that has a naked flame should be used with caution and never left unattended.”
