The owner of the Staffordshire bull terrier-type dog that killed a chihuahua in the town centre on Monday – as reported in Thursday’s Oxford Mail – has apologised.

Daniel Laurie said someone else was walking two-year-old Dingo when he attacked Chico.

The 22-year-old said: “I am really sorry it happened. It’s upsetting.

“It was a really big surprise because the dog is placid with most dogs and people. It was completely out of its character.”

Chico’s owner Louisa Church, 33, said: “I’m really grateful he has bothered to apologise.”

Police had last night not made any arrests.
