THEY may not be as cute as the wildlife park’s other new additions, but four newly-hatched crocodiles are snapping up the praise.

Cotswold Wildlife Park is the only zoo in the UK to have been able to hatch Morelet’s crocodiles, and it has now repeated the success three times.

The endangered crocodiles, whose parents are named Gomez and Morticia, hatched on Thursday.

The hatchlings, who are also likely to be named after members of the Addams Family, are currently six to seven inches but are expected to grow to more than three metres in length.

They will spend the next couple of years at the Burford park before being moved to other zoos around the country.

Morelet’s crocodiles are found in central and southern America, living on a diet of bird, fish and mammals, but have become endangered since the early 1900s.

Cotswold Wildlife Park curator Jamie Craig said: “It can always be difficult to breed crocodiles but this time it has gone perfectly. Everything has worked perfectly and the hatchlings are in perfect health.

“We are the only zoo that has bred them and this is the third time we have replicated the success, so we are very, very happy.”

The hatchlings will go on display at the wildlife park in a week.
