A BURGLAR who knocked off a PSCO’s hat and stamped on it has been locked up for 26 months.

Alexander Pouget, 44, pictured, of Bagley Wood Road, Kennington, pleaded not guilty to two burglaries and an assault but was convicted at Oxford Crown Court.

He burgled an Iffley Road house in April and St Philip’s Books in St Aldate’s in March – where he smashed two rear windows and stole £145 worth of books.

Less than an hour after the burglary Pouget was stopped by Pcsos in Stanley Road, East Oxford, as he was acting anti-socially. He became abusive and knocked off Pcso Helen Duffield’s hat before stamping on it and grabbing at her clothing.

Members of the public helped the Pcsos restrain Pouget before officers arrived. He was then arrested for both burglaries.

Pouget was sentenced to 26 months in jail at Oxford Crown Court last Friday – two years for the house burglary and two months for the bookshop burglary.

A four-week sentence for the assault will run concurrently with the other offences.

Det Sgt Richard Pickering said: “Throughout the investigation and trial Pouget failed to accept responsibility for his actions.

“I am pleased that court identified the transparency of his lies and found him guilty after trial.”
