LIBBY Turner has been through more than most 16 year olds.

She was diagnosed with a form of cancer, osteosarcoma, in her leg, which resulted in missing a year of school when she was 11.

A year on crutches and in wheelchairs undergoing intense physiotherapy followed.

When the cancer returned in her lung in April, she was devastated.

But Libby, a pupil at Bartholomew School, Eynsham, resolved not to let it get in her way.

Despite undergoing an operation on her lungs, which revealed that the cancer had calcified and she was unlikely to require further treatment, she finished off her exams.

And yesterday, she picked up an A*, three As, a B, five Cs and a D.

Libby, who lives in Standlake, said: “I’m very pleasantly surprised.

“It was really difficult because it came at a really inconvenient time when you are thinking about revision.

“I just thought how are you going to deal with your GCSEs ?

“I was so relieved when they told me I didn’t need any treatment so I could focus on my revision.”

Headteacher Andrew Hamilton said: “She pushed ahead and was really positive about it all.

“She came through and had a really good set of results.

“She’s overcome an enormous amount of adversity.”

The teenager now has a clean bill of health.
