HAVING read Peter Hughes’s report (Reservoir lorries will be danger in village, Oxford Mail,  August 16), I can only come to one conclusion and that is the Wheatley nimbys (not in my backyard) mentioned are only interested in one thing – themselves.

One of their objections is the danger lorries would pose to children, but then one of them suggested routing the vehicles through Shotover Estate.

This track is on private land.

It is a bridleway and footpath used by young and old alike, and therefore, if the lorries used that route then there is a danger to children, horses and riders.

The top half of the track, nearest the reservoir, is lined by trees both sides which have been there for hundreds of years, and traffic , especially heavy lorries, would kill all of them.

The next part of the track is very steep and too narrow for a lorry.

So this route is a non-starter and all the Wheatley nimbys are concerned about is moving the problem into someone else’s backyard.

I have no doubts that this will be down Sandy Lane, Gidley Way and through Horspath, so we have their problem.

Several weeks ago, I put money down with a bookmaker I know that this is what will happen.

So, when it does happen, at least I will get some kind of compensation for having this traffic passing my front door!
