THE decision to drop two charges against a motorist who ran over a mum in Sainsbury’s car park in Witney has been defended.

The Crown Prosecution Service charged Carol Glynn, 66, from Finstock, near Charlbury, with three offences after the incident on May 12, which broke both of Kerry Hyatt’s legs.

But charges of leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident were dropped.

Glynn admitted driving without care and attention on Wednesday at Banbury Magistrates’ Court.

She was fined £90, given six penalty points, and ordered to pay £85 costs.

Mrs Hyatt, 30, said she had felt “cheated” by the punishment.

But Louise Rosher, Thames and Chiltern CPS spokesman, said the charge of careless driving was the most serious of the charges.

She said: “The defendant did not plead guilty to the lesser two of the three charges and this would have led to a trial.

“Due to conflicts in the evidence available, there is no guarantee that a trial would have been successful.

“The most important aspect of cases like this for victims is for the defendant to acknowledge responsibility for the injuries caused.

“In this case, the defendant acknowledged her responsibility for the injuries caused to the victim by pleading guilty to the charge of careless driving.”
