THIS year’s Fly to the Past show has been cancelled, organisers have announced.

The show – originally two days then reduced to one day – was due to take place at Oxford Airport in Kidlington on Sunday, September 2.

A statement from organisers said: “Regrettably, despite four popular productions to over 50,000 spectators, Fly To The Past is unable to produce a stand-alone event this year and has to be postponed.

“A combination of unfavourable economic and climatic conditions has made prospective ticket buying slower and later than any year in our history.

“Ticket sales are simply too slow to risk going forward if we are to responsibly meet our production costs. It seems that the competition from the Olympics and Jubilee has diluted the leisure time and budgets of the public with many events across the UK having to cancel their shows without offering an alternative. Lastly, we really do appreciate that our aviation enthusiasts will be disappointed and assure you that every endeavour was made to avoid postponing the event.”

Any tickets bought through Newsquest websites will be refunded shortly.
