IF EVER a saying rang true it’s “one man’s meat is another’s poison”.
A sentiment which perfectly sums up that old chestnut of Cowley Road – Fuzzy Ducks at the O2 Academy .
This notorious night of student excess has aroused controversy for many years among East Oxford residents concerned about antisocial behaviour.
But all that’s about to change now that this riot of youthful exuberance has found a new home in Hythe Bridge Street.
Close to the city centre’s main entertainment thoroughfare of George Street, it is hoped its new location at popular nightspot Wahoo will cause fewer complaints from neighbours.
And certainly its new organisers are already making efforts to appease residents by axing the night’s infamous wet T-shirt competition following concerns from police and Oxford City Council .
But it is vital the club continues to listen closely to the concerns of residents like 22-year-old Tom Shelley, who wisely said: “It’s not a problem until it becomes a problem.”
Inviting locals in to better understand the measures already being taken to reduce the risk of late-night disturbance should at least prove the club is taking their concerns seriously.
