The theme of the London Olympics was to inspire a nation and it has certainly done that.

Sport in Britain as a whole is in a very good place right now. August 4 is being claimed as one of the best sporting days in British history, winning a total of six gold medals from inspiring performances by Jessica Ennis, Mo Farah and the surprising result of Greg Rutherford in the long jump; a great achievement.

The last long jump victory was Lynn Davies, at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Lynn Davies said Rutherford’s effort was “a privilege to watch”.

The Olympics has certainly been good for everyone participating in the Games and will hopefully encourage children and teenagers all over the nation to one day reach the Games themselves.

Thanks to the Games, our youth will be inspired to participate in a sport that they enjoy at any level, from school teams to Olympic hopefuls.

So far, they have inspired a nation.
