LIKE D. Holloway (Postal Fiasco, Oxford Mail, August 1), I too, am one of the many victims of the monopoly which is Royal Mail.

She states in her letter: “If you don’t always get proof of posting, you’re stuffed.” I fear that even this is not always the case.

Recently, I sent a letter and paid for it to be signed for. After a week of checking online, no evidence of delivery was revealed, merely a message saying that it was being ‘progressed’ though their system.

I then received a reply to the letter that had been sent. Evidently it had been delivered but no attempt had been made to collect a signature from the recipient.

On complaining, I received a book of six stamps, with a standard apology and an assurance that my ‘custom was important’ to them. The only thing was important to them is my money, which they mis-used.

Please, please, remove the Royal Mail monopoly on letters and allow another company (Mr Branson, perhaps) to run a parallel mail system which is reasonably-priced and efficient. They would soon see which system we, the customers, would prefer.
