A WITNEY-based author has written a new dark comic novel that brings murderous intent to the town.
The Choir Mistress by Carol Bunyan sees a group of aspiring singers join a Witney choir run by a Machiavellian mistress.
The novel, Ms Bunyan’s first, features scenes set at the Witney Carnival and a cub reporter at the Witney Gazette who keeps getting facts wrong.
Ms Bunyan, 60, said: “It is a tragedy strongly laced with humour.
“It is about ordinary people leading extraordinary lives. I have never been interested in kings and queens, but I have always been interested in small town lives.”
The Choir Mistress was published in April by New Generation Publishing.
Ms Bunyan has worked in television and theatre, including at The Royal Court Theatre in London and The Sheffield Crucible, for more than 25 years.
She will sign copies of her new book at Waterstones in Witney on Saturday, August 18, from 10.30am.
