CARTERTON is going from strength to strength as yet more investment is made in the town.
Aldi has already opened a large supermarket in the town centre and now Morrisons has applied for planning permission to open a store.
The store should offer more choice for shoppers and bring greater competition to the town and the surrounding area, which we are sure will be welcomed by residents.
And we hope the investment will also encourage other retailers to open shops in the town.
These are exciting times for Carterton, with the community growing as a result of the expansion of RAF Brize Norton .
Thousands of service personnel and their families are set to move into West Oxfordshire after RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire closed last September.
Carterton Town Council also hopes to encourage West Oxfordshire District Council to choose a site around the town for an estate offering up to another 1,000 homes.
The ultimate aim of the council is to expand the town’s population from the current 16,500 to 20,000, which it hopes will make it an attractive prospect for more major retailers. The potential locations for new housing are controversial, but we are sure the principle of growth and the prospect of more shops and jobs will be welcomed by the majority.
