A paedophile pensioner jailed for 18 years was taken to prison in a taxi.
James Summers was sentenced at Oxford Crown Court on Friday having been convicted by jurors of six rape charges dating back to the 1980s.
The 79-year-old was sentenced by Judge Mary Jane Mowat at about 6pm, by which time the last custody van had been dispatched to Bullingdon Prison near Bicester.
Instead GeoAmey security staff accompanied Summers, of Lyndene Road, Didcot, to jail in a taxi.
No-one from the firm was available to comment last night.
