Sir – Speedway supporters must never give up their hope of seeing our sport back in Oxford (Report, August 2).
Of course, we all hope that the council will continue to maintain the support they have given to the Oxford Stadium over the years and maintain the Sandy Lane site as a sports arena that should not be bulldozed for housing. It is much easier to keep what we have than to try to create a new arena for greyhound racing and speedway.
Regardless, we must always keep the faith. We had a very good example of just that this week with Norwich Speedway. Their track closed in 1964, but Norwich has just announced that a new track is now planned on the outskirts of the city with the support of great riders from the past — Ove Fundin, Terry Betts, Olle Nygren and Trevor Hedge.
