PROUD great, great grandmother Norah Tyrell welcomed her family back from across the globe to pose for a special photograph to mark five generations of her family.

Mrs Tyrell, from Queens Road, Carterton, turns 94 in September and last year became a great, great grandmother to Juliet Harrington, now 14 months.

Mrs Tyrell’s daughter, Mary Cotton, 74 and from Lechlade, was also in the photograph.

She said: “The five generations photo took some real organising, but it was worth it.

“My mother and I are still local, but my daughter Lorraine Harrington, who is 54, currently lives in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, and her son Craig whose new baby Juliet marks our fifth generation, lives in California in the United States.”

Mrs Cotton added: “We all wanted to make the special effort because my mother has now gone into hospital, where she has had a major operation on her spine.

“The op has gone well but mum was really worried about it, and to have all her family around her and Juliet sitting there on her lap just made everything so special.”

Mrs Tyrell, who is a widow, is well known for her fundraising efforts and has raised thousands of pounds for charities associated with RAF Brize Norton .

Mrs Cotton, who owned The Nut Tree gift shop in Faringdon for more than 15 years, said: “Mum may be almost 94, but she dedicates a lot of time to others and had baked hundreds of cakes and pastries which she sells at the Carterton Over 60s club.”

She added: “She was beaming all over for the picture and hopefully soon, she will be able to spend some more time with her precious great, great granddaughter.”

Posing alongside baby Juliet are her auntie Lisa-Marie Harington, 27, who is a senior sales negotiator for Perry Bishop Estate Agents in Faringdon, her grandmother, Lorraine Harrington, 54, who works in a British school in Abu Dhabi, her great grandmother Mary Cotton, 74, and great, great grandmother Norah Tyrell.
