A MULTI-STOREY car park could open near Banbury Station next year after cash was secured for the project.
Chiltern Railways has won £10.4m for the four-storey car park, to provide 707 extra spaces from November next year. The cash has come from Network Rail , the Department for Transport and the Association of Train Operating Companies.
The car park is set to go on land next to the Royal Mail sorting office and the firm’s control centre, with a footbridge linking it to the station.
Chiltern, which says the number of people using the station is up 14 per cent this year, currently leases part of the Tramway Industrial Estate to provide 376 spaces but its short-term leases are set to expire.
Cherwell District Council has yet to make a final decision on the plans.
