SOME of your letters have started by saying: ‘I have never written to express my views before’ and now I join that ‘some’.

Last week I supported a friend who has been weekly attending the Rock Choir group that meets at the Cherwell School in Oxford at a joint concert with the Bicester Rock Choir; my friend had mentioned if rehearsals were anything to go by I was in for a treat.

That was an understatement.

The unlikely venue of Wheatley Park School’s hall faded into insignificance as friends and family supporters in unexpected numbers arrived and more seats had to be put out, a rough 200 head-count.

As the choir took their places on stage, ripples of anticipated applause had already begun as we recognised our loved ones.

From beginning to end a smile was sealed on all our faces as we were entertained by a variety of songs, some sung by some very good soloists.

I encourage your readers to keep an eye out for the next concert, and my friend says the weekly sessions are just as much fun but without the audience.

The last comment has to go to Debbie the conductor, although we couldn’t see her face, her choir reflected back her enthusiasm. A community event at its best.
