READING the article (Oxford Mail, June 28), regarding the proposed development of 190 student flats on the now vacant Travis Perkins builders’ merchant’s site in Chapel Street, East Oxford, isn’t it about time the city council got its priorities right and started building homes for people on the housing list.

I live not far from this empty builders’ yard and I think you could get at least 12 houses on the site.

If you walk around the streets of East Oxford and see what mess is left in front of gardens of houses with students in, it is disgusting.

So let’s get houses for council tenants and not the universities all the time.
