THE cause of a gas leak scare last night remains a mystery.
South Parks Road in Oxford is open again this morning following last night's 'gas leak' scare.
The city street was cordoned off by firefighters and police following reports of a smell similar to a gas leak.
However last night, it was said the smell was thought to be odour from cleaning chemicals.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service this morning said it was unable to identify the cause of the problem.
Spokesman Gemma Watts said: “The fire service was called to a smell, but it couldn’t be traced because the levels were not high enough to be identified.
“It wasn’t flammable or considered harmful, so the service ventilated the area and handed it over to someone on charge on the site.”
