PARKING restrictions are set to be introduced to parts of Old Marston to help combat congestion.

Oxfordshire County Council is planning to introduce double yellow lines along Marsh Lane and Horseman Close.

The scheme would also involve introducing ‘no waiting at any time’ restrictions in Marsh Lane between Dents Close and the traffic islands at the A40 flyover.

Double yellow lines would also be introduced at the junctions of Marsh Lane with Ashlong Road, Elms Drive and Dents Close.

Parish council chairman Charlie Haynes said parking was a huge problem in the area but he had not been told about the county council’s plans.

He said: “The first I knew was when we noticed the notices which had gone up on the street lights.

“This is a classic example of the council not bothering to inform us.

“We have been trying for months to arrange a meeting with the council to find a solution to the parking problem.”

Marston South is a controlled parking zone where residents and their visitors can only park on the street with a permit.

It extends from Croft Road in the north to John Garne Way in the south.

The rest of Marston, including the village of Old Marston, is not currently a CPZ.

In December, the parish council sent out hundreds of leaflets asking villagers for their opinions on the parking problem and used the results to lobby the county council. City councillor for Marston Mary Clarkson said: “The (county) plans aren’t bad in themselves and do deal with the issue of dangerous parking at junctions.

“But the parish council and I have always argued that they should be looked at as part of a wider controlled parking scheme for Old Marston.”

Ms Clarkson said she too had not been informed about the plans.

Oxfordshire County Council spokesman Owen Morton said the restrictions were a requirement of the redevelopment of the Court Place Farm site.

He said requests to combat commuter parking had also been made by the Thames Valley Police Neighbourhood action group, that is attended by residents, city councillors and the parish council.
