We've seen plenty of street parties in recent times to celebrate Royal occasions.
This one was held to mark a different but equally important event – the end of the Second World War.

Children from Seacourt Road and Hazel Road at Botley, Oxford, sat down to a VE Day (Victory in Europe) tea provided by their parents.
The picture, sent in by Ann Thorne, of Eynsham Road, Botley, shows the party in full swing at the junction of the two roads.
She lived with her parents, Harold and Margaret Bury, and her sisters Joan and Susan at 5 Seacourt Road.
Mrs Thorne writes:
“On the far right-hand side of the table facing
the camera is my late
sister Joan.
“Also in the photograph are Merrill Walker (nee Cooper), who still lives
in Hazel Road, Malcolm Chapman, Sheila McLaren, Shirley Smart, Glennis Chapman, Carol Neal, Bruce Wells, Mrs Daniels, Mrs Perkins, Mrs Fletcher and Mrs Simmons.
“Maybe others still living in the area can recognise themselves.”

This was one of many streets parties held in Oxfordshire to mark
the German surrender in May, 1945 after nearly six years of war.
Houses were decked with flags and bunting, bonfires were lit and dances were quickly organised, including one at Oxford Town attended by more than 600 people.
Everywhere, people seized the chance to let their hair down and forget the misery of war.

Do you recognise yourself or anyone else in the
picture above?
