OXFORDSHIRE County Council's children's services scrutiny committee meeting yesterday also heard the first details of proposed aspiration networks – groups of high-performing and lower-performing schools which will collaborate to focus on common goals.

Eleven groups of schools have applied for a share of £565,000 to work together on areas ranging from achievement in maths and English to teaching and learning.

Claudia Wade, the council’s school support and leadership services manager, said: “They have set out very clearly what they’re expecting different schools to achieve within the period of the project.”

The networks are: Watlington Partnership: Achievement in maths and English and governor collaboration. Chalgrove, Watlington, Lewknor, Ewelme, RAF Benson and Stadhampton Primaries, and Icknield Community College.

Oxford Partnership: Attainment in maths through teaching and parental engagement. St Joseph’s, SS Mary & John, New Marston, St Michael’s, St Barnabas, SS Philip & James and St Nicholas primaries.

Oxford City Learning Partnership: Improving standards and numeracy and literacy across all subject areas to improve GCSE results. Cheney School, the Cherwell School, Iffley Mead School, Matthew Arnold School, Meadowbrook College, St Gregory the Great, Oxford Academy, Wheatley Park School.

Abingdon Partnership: Raising awareness, skills and passion for maths. Caldecott, St Nicholas, Long Furlong, Carswell, Dunmore, Thameside, Thomas Reade and St Edmund’s primaries in Abingdon.

Faringdon Partnership: Maths and English, leadership and management. Faringdon Community College, Faringdon Junior, Faringdon Infant, Shellingford, Longworth, Longcot and Fernham, John Blandy, Buckland, Shrivenham, Ashbury and Compton, Beauchamp and Watchfield primaries, Fitzwaryn Special School.

Improving Learning Consortium: Maths. Hanwell Fields, William Morris, Orchard Fields, the Grange and Bishop Loveday primaries and North Oxfordshire Academy in Banbury.

Bicester Partnership: Performance levels at Key Stage 2. St Edburg's, Fritwell, Finmere, Charlton-on-Otmoor, Southwold, Bure Park, St Mary’s, Longfields, Launton, Langford and Chesterton primaries.

Outstanding facilitators network: Teaching and learning. Appleton, Botley, Church Cowley, Cumnor, Garsington, Wheatley and Wood Farm primaries.

Wantage Partnership: Improving leadership and the quality of teaching. Wantage, Charlton, Grove, Millbrook, St Amand’s, Stanford in the Vale, St James, Nicholas, Stockham, the Hendreds, the Ridgeway, Uffington primaries, Fitzwaryn Special School and King Alfred’s Academy, Wantage.

Carterton Partnership: Improve teaching and literacy levels. Carterton, Edith Moorhouse, the Gateway, St John the Evangelist, St Joseph’s primaries and Carterton Community College.

Woodcote Partnership: Improve progress in maths and English. Checkendon, Stoke Road, Peppard, Brightwell, Benson, Kidmore End and Sonning Common primaries.
