A MOTORCYLE safety workshop is to be held in Banbury tomorrow.

Oxfordshire County Council is subsidising the Be A Better Biker event at Banbury Fire Station in a bid to reduce accidents.

Be a Better Biker (BaBB) director Bruce Wingrave said: “We get bikers to look at the other side of the coin. We get them to look at the ‘when’ and ‘how’, rather than the ‘not me’.

“That means ‘when I do this, what will the consequences be and how are they going to affect me’, rather than ‘it’s not going to happen to me’.”

The 9am to 3pm course would have cost £80 per rider but the county council is contributing £30 for each.

It said more than 1,100 motorcyclists or moped riders have been injured on county roads.

This year 23 have been serious injured and three killed. Last year, 73 were seriously injured and seven killed.

Road safety team leader Mandy Rigault said: “I encourage riders to consider BaBB and appeal to their families to bring the further two courses we are running to the attention of their loved one, in the hope more Oxfordshire riders can benefit from this valuable experience.”

Places are £50 and must be booked in advance at beabetterbiker.co.uk Further sessions will be held on September 22 in Abingdon and October 20 in Witney.
