Oxford University's Bodleian Library is providing a suitably dramatic backdrop to Shakespeare’s play Hamlet this month.
Oxford Playhouse is staging the production in the Old Schools Quadrangle until Thursday, July 26.
The theatre group, from Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, in London, has been performing at the library since Tuesday.
The title role is taken by Michael Benz, while Carlyss Peer plays Ophelia. She said: “It’s great to be here in Oxford performing in the Bodleian Library’s Quadrangle – it’s an amazing place and building to be performing in.
“It’s very atmospheric and definitely enhances the audience’s experience of the play.
“People will be surprised by how much fun and laughter there is in this production, but I think there has to be that element of fun in order to get to the tragic moments.”
Tickets cost £18 and are available from the Playhouse ticket office on 01865 305305 or online at oxfordplayhouse.com
