23 PIONEER Regiment, which is based in Bicester, is being disbanded, the Government announced today.
The name will disappear and troops will be subsumed into other units as part of the Government's cutbacks on Defence.
Tasks conducted by 23 Pioneer will also be picked up by other units.
Defence Secretary Philip Hammond outlined the Government's scheme, which includes reducing the number of regular Royal Logistic Corps units by three to 12.
The Government is withdrawing 1 and 2 Logistic Support Regiments and disbanding 23 Pioneer Regiment.
A Ministry of Defence spokesman claimed the changes would have no impact on the St David's Barracks and the announcement does not automatically mean redundancies.
The 2010 Strategic Defence and Security Review decreed that the regular Army should be cut by 20,000 people to 82,000.
