I see that the Tory and Lib Dem Government is giving £1bn to Rolls-Royce to develop nuclear reactors for a new generation of submarines armed with nuclear missiles.
Whatever happened to the coalition promise to delay the decision on whether to renew our nuclear weapons until after the next General Election?
Wouldn’t it be better to invest that money in much-needed new homes, improved schools or better hospitals?
Our nuclear submarines are a terrible hang-over from the Cold War and are worse than useless at tackling the threat from terrorist bombers and Al Qaida.
The sooner we scrap our nuclear weapons the better.
