Interesting though it might be, Bruce Ross-Smith's letter (Wednesday’s Oxford Mail ViewPoints) says nothing about how to address the fundamental problem with Barton, and that is, as has been known for a long time, that either the A40 or the Barton estate is in the wrong place.

To build more houses in this area, with the consequent increase in traffic, will only bring more problems to the area.

Dealing with the roads has to be the first priority before any houses are built, but not the city council's nonsense suggestion of turning a busy trunk road into an urban road.

In my first letter, I mentioned the Ministry of Transport scheme to build a bypass to the north of Barton, but only to point out that that was the second time a road north of Barton had been suggested.

Presumably an answer has to be found. Perhaps Bruce can point a way forward.
