I really enjoyed reading the letter sent by Adrian Taylor (Monday’s Oxford Mail ViewPoints), about how green the older generation was and indeed is.
I have always felt that pensioners are in many ways far more conscientious towards the environment.
For instance they often bring their shopping trolleys, instead of taking a free plastic bag at the checkout.
Many pensioners grow their own vegetables, either in their gardens or allotments.
I concur that it is sadly the younger generation that is causing so much damage with their profligate ways.
The other day I saw a trolley full of plastic carrier bags being given away at the Iceland supermarket in Headington.
It made me really cross the way the cashier was dishing out so many free plastic bags.
Please can Oxford City Council put its money where its mouth is and introduce a by-law enforcing all Oxford supermarkets to charge for plastic bags?
This has successfully taken place in other cities. Why not here in our beautiful city?
This is a good way to reduce plastic bag use.
City councillors, please prove your green credentials and do something really positive and palpable to make Oxford a green and clean city.
