Sir – Over the past month I have enjoyed seeing bees and other insects thriving on the thousands of clover flowers that have flourished on the communal grass areas of Shilton Park, Carterton. It was therefore so sad today to see WODC staff mowing these areas and cutting the heads off of all of these beautiful flowers.

When will our councils start being more flexible and thoughtful in their management of communal spaces and start doing all they can for our hard-pressed bees and butterflies?

Paul Hughes, Carterton
