A MAN was punched and kicked unconscious in a mass brawl in the centre of Abingdon, a court heard.

Three car loads of men from Oxford, some armed with sticks, descended on the town after a report that a friend’s girlfriend had been assaulted.

But when a man leaving Stratton’s nightclub at 2am hurled a plastic glass at the convoy in Ock Street, the cars pulled over and the men attacked a group leaving the club.

The incident took place on May 27 last year and most of the attackers appeared at Oxford Crown Court this week.

Ringleader Reuben Campbell-Maasz admitted causing actual bodily harm. The 19-year-old, of William Lucy Way, Jericho, also admitted affray.

Also pleading guilty to affray were Carl Webster, 18, of Croxford Gardens, Kidlington; Charles Powell, 20, of Harpes Road, North Oxford; Paul Dalton, 19, of Gordon Road, Bournemouth, and Kevin Smith, 21, of Wyatt Road, North Oxford.

Daniel New, 20, of School Court, Jericho, and Marcus Zwarycz, 21, of Oxford Road, Bletchingdon, admitted using threatening words or behaviour to cause a fear of violence.

A 20-year-old Oxford man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is currently standing trial for affray.

The seven men who have admitted offences will be sentenced at a later date. All eight men are on bail.
