I THINK I know why only half of the 25,000 people written to in the county by the NHS with the offer of a health ‘MoT’ test, did not take up the offer (Monday’s Oxford Mail).

The age group invited was 40 to 74. Many of that age group are still working, especially those aged between 40 and 65.

I have had the MoT but, then, I don’t work.

My partner, on the other hand, works Monday to Friday, several miles away from Oxford.

If he was to take up the offer of an MoT, he would not only lose a day’s pay or holiday entitlement, but his bosses would not take very kindly to this request, as usually it takes two days, because if blood tests are required, you have to return on another weekday to get the results.

I am sure if this service was also offered on a Saturday, the uptake would be higher.
