TWO armed police officers were called to Witney to deal with a fight that left an 18-year-old man in hospital.

The armed response unit was called after reports of a fight involving weapons in Lowells Place, off Corn Street, at about 10.30pm on Monday.

But the officers did not draw their weapons and were stood down soon after arriving in the town.

The victim was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford by ambulance with slash wounds to his upper arm. He was later discharged.

Police believe he was attacked with a broken bottle. Another 18-year-old was injured in the buttock, but was not taken to hospital.

No-one has yet been arrested.

Martin Cornish, landlord of the nearby New Inn, said: “His upper arm was quite badly damaged. It was savage – I have never seen anything like it.”
