THE unveiling of the Alec Issigonis Way road sign (Friday’s Oxford Mail) was a great day for all those with an interest in Alec Issigonis and his designs.

I would like to thank Goodman, the park developers at the Oxford Business Park North, for their enthusiasm and help with both arranging for a sign to be erected and then working with me on the unveiling ceremony.

I would also like to thank them for the hospitality that they showed us all on the day.

While many were sad to see the old North and South Works go, Goodman’s development is impressive and beautifully landscaped.

I thought some of your readers may enjoy seeing a photograph of the other car that helped us unveil the sign.

This is a 1950 Morris Minor known as Jo. Jo has only had three owners during her life, the first being a secretary at Morris Exports.

She is unrestored, wearing the same paint that she left Cowley in all those years ago.

Jo is owned by Bill and Lesley Hewlett (Bill is pictured with her) and the 1959 Mini is owned by Adrian Reynard (pictured with his Mini alongside John Sheppard), who was an apprentice at Cowley during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

Seeing the 1950 Morris Minor, 1959 Mini and a 2012 Mini together reminds you that not only did Cowley produce some world-famous cars and, indeed, cars to be proud of, but continues to do so to this very day, creating employment for thousands of local people.
