A TOUCH of movie magic will be added to the unique centrepiece of Oxford’s Olympic celebration in South Park next month.

Movie industry sound designer James Mather will be adding sound effects at the Tree of Light event.

Mr Mather has worked on the Harry Potter films and blockbusters Clash of the Titans and Sherlock Holmes.

More than 750 people will take part in the 9.30pm show, to feature a 16-metre LED tree powered by cyclists.

Mr Mather said: “This is really exciting, and a huge challenge.

“We’re making a big contribution to the performance, adding to the music and dance, and bringing the tree alive.”

Electronic musician Matthew Herbert, creative director of the New Radiophonic Workshop, will soundtrack the event, to also feature singers and dancers.

The 20,000 free tickets for the event – to celebrate the arrival of the Olympic torch in the city – were snapped up within a week.
