A PLAQUE in honour of India cricketing legend ‘Tiger’ Pataudi was unveiled at Oxford University cricket pavilion as his family visited the city.
Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, nicknamed ‘Tiger’, studied Arabic and French at Balliol College and famously scored centuries in three consecutive first-class matches for the university.
Despite losing an eye in a car crash, he went on to captain India on numerous tours between 1961 and 1974. Mr Pataudi, who died in September aged 70, was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1968. A plaque in his honour has now been put up on the wall of the historic cricket pavilion in the University Parks.
University Chancellor Lord Patten and Vice-Chancellor Prof Andrew Hamilton welcomed Mr Pataudi’s widow Sharmila Tagore and his eldest son Saif Ali Khan to the city on Friday to unveil the plaque.
Head of sport development at the university Andrew Thomas said: “We are delighted to honour a legend in Oxford and India.”
