THE organisers of this year’s Thame Town Festival are out to prove they don’t need celebrity help to draw in the crowds.

Pop singer and reality TV star Peter Andre last year helped organise the annual event, attracting thousands of screaming fans.

Support had been dwindling for the carnival in previous years, but thanks to the celebrity touch, £4,600 was raised for local charities last year.

It is hoped that success can be recreated at the event from midday next Saturday.

Organising committee chairman Mark Green said: “This year we have managed to book more stalls, we have more bands and a lot more people are involved.

“There will be a procession through the town centre from midday.

“Lots of local businesses and schools have floats, there will be a lot of people taking part and we hope to have at least 3,000 people there.”

Other activities include a dog show, bar and barbecue, with all profits going to charity.

The show starts in the town centre at midday and will then follow on at the Recreation Ground.
