GROUPS from across Oxfordshire will have their say on whether the 1,200- home Barton West development should go ahead.
Yesterday, government planning inspector Shelagh Bussey held a public meeting at Town Hall where she set out how the hearings into the proposed estate, on Oxford City Council land, would be carried out.
The public inquiry will last for five days next month.
Some of the people who will be putting their views forward include the Oxford Preservation Trust, South Oxfordshire District Council and Ruskin College.
County councillor Anne Purse, who represents Wheatley, will also be speaking at the hearing as will former Oxford Civic Society president and former Oxford Mail editor Mark Barrington-Ward.
Thames Valley Police, the Campaign to Protect Rural England, the Barton Community Association and Oxford City Council will be represented.
Oxford City Council’s Barton Area Action Plan involves the construction of 1,200 houses on land to the west of Barton to help solve the city’s housing problem.
Drawn up last year, the plans have now been submitted to the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government for approval.
The hearings will begin at 1.30pm in the Long Room of Town Hall in St Aldate’s on Monday, July 16.
