I WAS reading with interest our Chief Constable Sara Thornton’s wish for more public action in regards to electing the new police commissioners, and I quite agree with her (Oxford Mail, May 29).

Yet I would like to suggest starting at the other end, as it were.

Most people are unaware of the inner workings of the police force.

Would it not be possible for a leaflet, written briefly and concisely, giving a clear job description (perhaps in your newspaper), made available to all? Then, as when applying for any job, a list of the name, age,CV, and length of time lived in the locality of the candidates.

I cannot vote for someone of whom I have never heard, to do a well-paid job, the contents of which are quite obscured from my understanding.

Do other readers know what the proposed changes within the Thames Valley Police Force are all about and how they will be affected by these changes?

It is a good idea to check that there is water in the swimming pool before diving from the top board.
