The John Radcliffe Hospital League of Friends have yet again behaved magnificently in the face of suddenly being expected to pay a £25,000 annual rent for their cafe by the hospital trust (Oxford Mail, May 23).

The League has just donated £54,000 for a special camera in the operating theatre of the women’s centre.

My investigations following my recent letter in this newspaper (ViewPoints, May 28) are looking at whether the hospital trust is bending to pressure from Carrillion (the hospital’s private finance initiative partner).

I have been unsuccessful in attempts to contact Carrillion’s Phillipa Carman facilities and estates managing director.

Therefore I propose that a public inquiry is called to establish why there should be such a sudden change to expecting large rents, after many years of a compatible working relationship between the hospital trust, the League of Friends and Carrillion.

It is the patients who will inevitably lose out, as the voluntary donations from the League of Friends will cease, due to the demand for such an unsustainable rent.

Please will Carrillion come clean as to why there has been the sudden change of heart?

And can I appeal to readers to please support the League of Friends over the issue by leaving your name with me at tayloradrian7125@yahoo.co.uk or calling me on 07796 986799.
