ONE of Oxford’s most-wanted men is facing jail after being caught and convicted of robbery.

Gunesh Sukriev featured in the Oxford Mail’s Badvent calendar of on-the-run crooks and suspects in December.

He was unanimously convicted by jurors of one count of robbery at Oxford Crown Court on Friday. He will be sentenced for that offence, plus others of affray and dangerous driving, this Friday.

The Oxford Mail ran the Badvent feature for the second year in 2011, picturing a different fugitive every day in the run-up to Christmas.

Sukriev featured on December 6, wanted on a warrant issued by Oxford Magistrates’ Court.

The robbery took place in Stanley Road, East Oxford, on Saturday, July 23.

Sukriev, 19, approached Sulhail Anwar and threatened him with a chain before stealing the 20-year-old’s iPhone.

The dangerous driving offence took place on July 24, 2010, when Sukriev was seen by police officers speeding in Oxford.

He was convicted of this offence after a previous trial and also admitted an offence of affray.

Sukriev was originally from Cowley but is now of Brights Road in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. He was remanded in custody.
