I have just returned from a relaxing week in Greece, where we travelled with ease on the roads, with free, unlimited parking and no parking wardens hiding round the corners ready to pounce as you leave your car.

What do we come back to?

Making my way to work on Botley Road into Oxford, I find we are faced with even further delays and traffic jams that will, without doubt, cause further frustration to drivers who have to come to work by car.

Why is Oxford so obsessed with causing major traffic delays, instead of allowing traffic to flow smoothly?

This new traffic island next to McDonald’s will only cause further problems for large lorries turning into the flow of traffic and turning right to the industrial units behind, all of which is only extending the delays and tailbacks to the A34.

Clearly the people who designed this must not use Botley Road or don’t travel by car. Not only here, but all around Oxford, we are faced with traffic lights on roundabouts that are in use 24-7, which could be switched on at peak times only, This would save many thousands in running costs and save delays sitting at a pretty red light when the roads all around are completely clear.

Roundabouts were designed to make traffic flow in an orderly manner, giving way to traffic to the right, but clearly the learner drivers of today are not taught this.

We have a city that is best avoided due to the number of buses passing through, enough to cause more traffic jams and high pollution and many of which are empty. Oxford has become one of the unfriendliest places to visit.

Can we please look at changing the committee who sit and dream up these idiotic designs, which condemn Oxford to the graveyard of places to bypass?
